Groceryshops located in the SGPDA market opened for the first time since thelockdown came into force last week.
ThePDA took the decision to allow the grocery stalls to open on Sundayas they were the only shops that remained shut all these days duringthe lockdown, while other similar shops in the commercial capitalremained open.
SGPDAChairman MLA Wilfred D’Sa told the media that the PDA has openedthe gates of the market housing the grocery items since they were allclosed during the last few days.
“Thegovernment has decided to open the grocery shops across the state. Wehave made it clear to the grocery stall owners that social distancingshould be complied with by them in the market during business hours,”he said, adding that the stall owners have promised to comply withthe guidelines.
ThePDA Chairman further said that the PDA will take an appropriate callon the question of opening the vegetable and fruit markets in the PDAretail market. “Right now, we have only openedthe grocery stalls. We will assess the situation before opening thevegetable and fruit markets in the PDA as well,” he added.
